May 11, 2013 – After get washed out for two weeks and a special
Friday night race, we finally were able to get a week of short
track racing in here at Highland Rim Speedway. Tyler Cordell
took an early lead in the
Legends division with David Moyes III not far behind. Moyes
passed Cordell for the lead, while Cordell and Chad Davis
battled for second but when they got together going into turn
three the caution flew for the first time tonight. On the
restart, Moyes jumped to the lead, while Davis and Wayne Grubbs
fought for third, with Davis coming out to challenge Cordell for
second. David Moyes III wins the feature with Chad Davis second,
Tyler Cordell third, Wayne Grubbs fourth, and David Moyes
rounding out your top five.
Rim
Runners started out with Jeff Fredrick, your fast qualifier,
jumping to an early lead, only to fall back quickly when he had
a little bit of engine trouble. David Bates also fell back
quickly, when John McCloud takes the lead. Kenneth Williams and
Tyler Gay fought for a couple of laps with Gay beating Williams
for sixth place, while Chris York and David Lassiter duked it
out with York passing Lassiter for seventh. York worked his way
up from the back of the pack to come all the way up past Bates
and Jerry Meeks for fourth place. Anthony Downing and Gay fought
for second while Williams slowed and pulled in the pits just a
few laps shy of the checkered flag. John McCloud led the entire
caution free race, earning his first ever win, with Anthony
Downing in second, but after a post race inspection, he was
disqualified, moving Chris York to third, Jerry Meeks to fourth,
and David Lassiter to fifth.
Josh Brown ran out to the lead
early on in the Tuner
division while Zena Jenkins and Chris Carlisle fought for fifth,
and then Jenkins moved up to challenge, and pass Toby Tobitt for
fourth. Unfortunately, Jerry Jones hit the wall, bringing out
the caution while Tobitt falls out, and Jenkins and Patrick
Thomason go to the rear of the field. Brown kept the lead on the
restart, while Daniel Harper and Sam Arnold fought for fourth,
with Harper coming out on top. Jason Turner, Derrick Bissinger,
and Ronnie Upchurch all fought for position, with Upchurch
passing Turner and Bissinger. Carlisle and Justin Dickens
battled for second with Carlisle beating Dickens to the line,
and Upchurch finally passed Arnold for fifth, when Harper spun
bringing out another caution. On the restart, Brown still led
with Dickens and Carlisle battling for second not far behind
him, when Carlisle, Arnold, Justin Martin, and Jason Turner all
got tangled up and brought out another caution. Brown kept the
lead, but Jenkins wasn’t too far behind him, and she finally
passed him with just a few laps left of the race. Zena Jenkins
got her second win of the season, with Josh Brown coming in
second, Ronnie Upchurch in third, Justin Dickens in fourth and
Daniel Harper in fifth.
Pro
-4 Mods started off with Ryan Arms fighting Johnny Cox for
the lead, while Charlie Dickens and Preston Bores fighting for
second. Matt Spurlock caught Cox, and took the lead from him
just a few laps into the race, Cox gets loose, and Dickens took
advantage of it and shot past him, claiming the third spot,
while Bores, Richard Hamilton and Mikey Kelly battled for fifth.
Kendra Lamastus brought out the caution about halfway through,
scrunching the field back up, but Spurlock held on to his lead,
with Cox and Arms still fighting for the third position, and
Bores, Kelly, and Hamilton all battled for fifth. After Lamastus
brought out another caution, Spurlock held on to his lead, with
Cox and Arms going for third, Kelly taking fifth, and Bores and
Hamilton fighting for sixth. After another caution, Matt
Spurlock held on to his lead once again, to come out victorious,
with Charlie Dickens finishing second, Ryan Arms finishing
third, Johnny Cox finishing fourth and Richard Hamilton
finishing fifth.
The
Southern Superstars
Series visited us tonight, with a 100 lap race. Justin
Ashburn ran out front for a quick lead while Davey Coble and
Chase Oliver battled for third, but they got together with
Oliver spinning bringing out the caution. On the restart Ashburn
kept the lead, but another caution came out for Tony Ussery and
Dustin Arms. On the next restart, Ashburn held his lead while
James Climer fell back through the pack and eventually going in
the pits. Mark Day took the lead from Ashburn about a quarter of
the way through the race, with a caution coming out once again.
Day kept his lead white Coble moves up to fight Ashburn for the
second position. Wayne White fought Oliver with White beating
him for position. Once again, another caution flew a few laps
later. Day led while Oliver passed Ricky Sanford and Ashburn for
the third position, but still a long way from leaders Day and
Coble. With brakes already glowing at the halfway mark, Coble
unsuccessfully tried for the lead, while White moves to the
fourth position. At the three quarter mark, Oliver blows a tire,
but still managed to stay on the lead lap. There were three cars
on the lead lap, Day, Coble, and Oliver. Day led the restart,
Coble tried to pass once again, this time successful. As soon as
Coble took the lead, he spun, sending him back to fourth. With
seven laps to go, Day kept his lead, while Coble had to pass
White, with not quite enough time to work his way back up to
Day. Mark Day took the win, with Chase Oliver taking second,
Davey Coble taking third, Wayne White taking fourth, and Ricky
Sanford rounding out the top five for the Southern Superstars.
Roger Birdsong Jr. jumped to an
early lead in his first race of the season in the
Super Stock division,
while Terry Jackson and Johnathan Dishman fought for fourth. But
before the first lap was finished, Jeff Taylor spun to bring out
the first caution. Birdsong and Brew Fox fought for the lead,
while Tink Jackson and Dishman fought for third. Birdsong took
the lead over Fox and Dishman took third over Tink Jackson.
Terry Jackson and Fox battled for second, and when Fox took over
the second position, we had a caution come out for rain. While
we took an extended caution, and ran the Pure Stock race to help
dry the track off after the rain stopped, we finally were able
to finish the Super Stock race. Terry Jackson takes the lead
after our rain delay, while Tink Jackson and Sam Arnold battled
for fifth. Tink Jackson took fifth and then moved on up to take
third from Fox. Terry Jackson managed to hold off Birdsong for
the lead, but Birdsong has trouble and drops back quick, pulling
in pits. Jim Jordan and Arnold fought for fifth, while Terry
Jackson tried to hold off his uncle Tink Jackson for the lead.
In the end, Tink Jackson beat his nephew to the finish line, for
the win. Terry Jackson wound up second, Brew Fox finished third,
Leroy Binkley finished fourth, and Jim Jordan finished fifth.
The
Pure Stock division was a calm race for the night. They
helped dry the track off while we were on the rain delay during
the Super Stock division. Terry Jackson jumps to lead while Jim
Bork and Scotty Russell duked it out for second. Bork wins out
over Russell. Kevin Wilson passed Willie Coats for fifth, while
Jackson and Russell fought for the lead. Jackson and Russell
were running side by side for a few laps, but at the checkered
flag, Scotty Russell wins, followed by Terry Jackson in second,
Willie Coats in third, Kevin Wilson in fourth and Jim Bork in
fifth.
